What is the Kingston Language Scheme (KLS)?
Kingston Language Scheme (KLS) is a University-wide programme which provides high-quality language courses to everybody:

For an authentic language experience, you'll be taught by experienced and highly-qualified language teachers, many of whom are native language speakers.
Kingston Language Scheme offers a choice of 9 languages:

Our qualified, experienced language teachers, who are either native speakers or have extensive knowledge of the language and culture, offer excellent instruction in a supportive environment.
Teaching levels
For absolute beginners. This level aims to give students a basic knowledge of the language.
Entry requirements: None.
For near-beginners. This level is designed to provide students with the foreign language skills to interact satisfactorily in survival situations and social encounters and to be aware of the foreign culture and environment.
Entry requirements: Completion of Level 1 or three months' prior language learning.
This level is designed to develop the language competency already acquired by students and engage students with aspects of the language's culture.
Entry requirements: Completion of Level 2 or six months' prior language learning.
This module is designed to equip students with further linguistic skills to enable them to communicate in a number of familiar work and social situations and to broaden students' awareness of the foreign culture.
Entry requirements: Completion of Level 3, one year's prior language learning or equivalent of level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The module will consolidate and develop existing linguistic skills and increase students’ vocabulary, so they can use more complex structures and become aware of register. It will also consolidate and deepen their awareness of aspects of the foreign culture and work environment.
Entry requirements: Completion of Level 4 or equivalent.
This module further develops the students’ reading, speaking, writing and listening skills, builds on the grammar base acquired in previous modules and emphasises communication and comprehension.
Entry requirements: Completion of Level 5 or level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
This module will consolidate and develop existing linguistic skills. Students will increase their vocabulary, be able to use more complex structures, become more aware of registration and consolidate and deepen their awareness of aspects of the foreign culture.
Entry requirements: Completion of Level 6 or equivalent.
This module places an emphasis on achieving an advanced level of communication and accuracy in speaking, listening, reading and writing in both formal and informal registers.
Entry requirements: Completion of Level 7 or level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The module will consolidate and develop existing linguistic skills in speaking, reading, listening and writing. Students will increase their vocabulary, be able to use more complex structures and become more aware of register. They will also consolidate and deepen their awareness of aspects of the foreign culture.
Entry requirements: Completion of Level 8 or level B2.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
